We use it on a daily base but possibly do not appreciate its meaning anymore. We are talking about paper. The year 2015 marks the 625th anniversary of its first paper production site in Germany. The original paper was discovered in China more than 2000 years ago.

In 1390 Ulman Stromer created the basis for the German success story in Nuremberg, when he founded the “Gleismühle”, Germanys first paper mill. Up until the middle of the 19th century paper was exclusively made out of rags.
The modern triumphant march of paper did not start until 1843, when Saxon weaver Friedrich Gottlob Keller had the idea of creating a fibre pulp out of water and pulp wood. With this he laid the foundations for industrial paper production.
The 625th Birthday of German Paper is the occasion for an open house day where numerous paper manufacturers will participate. It takes place on Saturday 27.06.2015. For further information please check www.625jahrepapier.de
